Originally from central Alberta, James Wyman has made Calgary his home and the centre of his legal career. As a criminal defence lawyer, James is dedicated entirely to defending individuals facing charges under the Criminal Code. His practice focuses on serious and complex cases, including sexual assault, impaired driving causing death, and murder.Over the years, James has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta, as well as the Supreme Court of Canada. He has represented a wide range of clients—from professionals like lawyers and investment bankers to athletes and everyday individuals—earning a reputation for thoughtful preparation and fearless courtroom advocacy. His practice extends beyond Alberta and has taken him to courtrooms across Canada and the United States.
Much of James’ work comes through referrals from former clients, fellow lawyers, and even judges—a testament to the trust he has earned in the legal community. He is known for his ability to handle challenging, high-stakes cases with strategy, focus, and compassion.
James earned his law degree Magna Cum Laude from Gonzaga University School of Law in 2008, after graduating with distinction from the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor of Management.
He is an active member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Calgary Defence Lawyers Association, and the Calgary Bar Association.
Outside the courtroom, James enjoys snowboarding, golfing, and spending time with his family.
