Alias Sanders is regarded by senior criminal lawyers as the, “the best appeal lawyer of her generation,” Ms. Sanders has argued over 200 cases at the Alberta Court of Appeal.
Alias Sanders was counsel on three of the most significant Supreme Court of Canada decisions in the last decade on the following areas: Immigration – R. v. Pham 2013 SCC 15, Infanticide 2016 SCC 11, and Dog Sniff Searches by Police – R. v. Kang-Brown 2008 SCC 18. She has an undefeated record at the Supreme Court of Canada.
Born and raised in Drumheller, she graduated at the University of Calgary with Honours in history before attending the University of Toronto for law school where she was taught by some of the best legal minds in Canada, including: Stephen Waddams, Michael Moldaver, Gary Trotter, Casey Hill, Allan Mewett, Brian Greenspan and Eddie Greenspan.
Her articles were done at Golden Green and Chercover in Toronto under noted civil libertarian Aubery Golden. She was called to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1996 and before moving back to Calgary where she completed her articles in Alberta at Lord Russel and was subsequently called to the bar in 1997.
Ms. Sanders established herself as the appellate counsel in Alberta with an encyclopedic knowledge of case law and an unparalleled ability to take apart complex arguments in favor of her clients.
